Adult & childn >12 yr Initially 5 mg as single daily dose, may be increased to 10, 20, 40 mg daily in single or divided doses, if necessary. Max: 100 mg/day. Childn <12 yr Initially 0.2 mg/kg as single dose & may be increased, if necessary. Max: 50 mg/day. Intervals between dosage adjustments should be at least 3 days.
Observe for signs & symptoms of pericarditis, pericardial effusion, tamponade, & perform ECGs if necessary. Administer w/ loop diuretics for prevention of fluid retention; w/ β-blockers or other sympathetic nervous system suppressant for prevention of angina pectoris. Hypertrichosis. Hematocrit, Hb conc & erythrocyte count may decrease. Pregnancy & lactation.
